Having gone through 3 rounds with our son, we can now stand back and look how far he has come and it is truly amazing. When Ryan started school it was a nightmare from every aspect of it. There was not one thing he was good at from coloring in the lines to using scissors. As he progressed up through the grades in school, spelling words were added in as well as adding and subtracting. We learned he couldn't remember what 2+2 was or how to spell his spelling words.
We started working with Dr. Bauernfiend when Ryan was in the second grade and after about a month we noticed his Dibels scores were going up and his spelling words were getting easier for him. He could read a passage and tell you what happened in it. He is now in the fourth grade. We no longer panic over spelling words each week or having to remember the story. He is able to sit down and learn them like everybody else.
He has gotten more confidence in himself. He can do things that were a struggle for him in the past. For example, he plays football at recess now where before he would stray away from this because he knew he would not be able to catch the football. He doesn't complain about school now and is just more outgoing and has better self-esteem. It is a lot of work to do the exercises along with school work and everyday life but if you put in the time and effort for your child, it will pay off with success.
